Rejoice After Today

Today is the day the Lord has made; rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalms 118:24

I'm full.  I couldn't eat another bite right now if you paid me to.  But in the kitchen, my mother-in-law and daughter are mixing up a batch of caramel nut brownies.  Probably by the time they come out of the oven, I'll find room.

The Bible verse I began this post with is my favorite verse; one that has sustained me through many a dark day.  For many of us, rejoicing in today isn't difficult.  We have family, food, and fun to share. While you enjoy the joys and blessing of this day, I hope you store a bit of those experiences away for one of your less than fortunate days.  If today is one of those not-so-great days, I hope you gather some comfort in the simple verse above.

Every day, no matter how exuberant or difficult, is a day to rejoice because the Lord made that day.  People say, "God doesn't make junk."  When it feels like you just need to get through the day, try stopping, like many people do on Thanksgiving, and giving thanks to the Lord for giving you that day.  Find something positive about the day. For me, any day shines brighter with that reminder.

I'll close with some of the things my family is thankful for today (in no particular order):

  • Football
  • Apple pie flavored gum
  • Two days off
  • Family
  • Brownies
  • Pecan pie
  • Good weather
  • My Mommy & Daddy
  • Raked leaves
  • Seeing family
  • Seeing Randy race Victoria across the yard
  • Not having a heart attack (when racing Victoria)
  • Being able to spend time with family, especially the unexpected opportunity to spend it with Victoria this year

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!  I think I smell brownies coming out of the oven.

So many things for which to be thankful. A short list only:

I'm thankful that I was able to take my wife a rose this morning.

I'm thankful that I was able to go to work today. I didn't want to, but I'm thankful that I could.

I'm thankful for family and friends.

I'm thankful that I got to see the last part of the Dallas vs. Dolphins game and Dallas pulled out the win. Way to go Cowboys!

I'm thankful for memories. Sometimes I wrap them around me like a soft comforter and snuggle down to enjoy their special warmth.

Apple Pie Flavored Gum??? I think I could be thankful for that too.

All wonderful blessings Uncle Wayne. I'm happy you could take a rose to your sweetheart, too. That made me smile...yet another thing to be thankful for.

And now all I can think about is caramel nut brownies instead of NaNo. Mmm...brownies.
